Memorial Jewellery FAQs — Your Questions Answered

Choosing memorial jewellery is a deeply personal decision, and it's completely normal to have questions before you take that step. Here are the ones we're asked most often, answered as plainly and honestly as we can.

What is memorial jewellery?

Memorial jewellery is a piece — a ring, pendant, bracelet or similar — made to hold a small, permanent keepsake of someone or something you've lost. That might be a pinch of ashes, a lock of hair, a piece of fur, or even breastmilk or umbilical cord. It's a way of keeping someone physically close, rather than only in memory.

How much ash or hair do you need?

Very little. A tiny pinch, roughly the size of a grain of rice, is generally all that's required for a piece. You're not sending us a significant portion of ashes, and what remains completely unaffected can still be scattered, kept, or interred as you'd planned.

Can I include more than one person (or pet) in a single piece?

Yes, this is something we're asked for often, particularly for pieces marking the loss of a parent and a child together, or multiple pets. Do get in touch before ordering so we can talk through the best way to combine inclusions and make sure the finished piece reflects what you have in mind.

What's the difference between ashes, hair, and fur inclusions?

They're prepared slightly differently, but the principle is the same: a small amount is carefully set within the piece, usually using resin, so it becomes a permanent, protected part of the jewellery. Ashes tend to be set as a fine, even blend; hair and fur inclusions are often visible as delicate strands within the setting. We're always happy to talk through which will suit the piece you're considering.

What is resin, and is it safe to use?

Resin is a clear, durable material that sets hard, allowing us to seal ashes, hair or fur permanently inside the jewellery so they're protected from moisture and everyday wear. Once cured, it won't leach or degrade under normal use, and it's what gives memorial jewellery its lasting, low-maintenance nature.

How do I choose between a ring, pendant or bracelet?

It's really about how you want to carry your memory day to day. A pendant is worn close, over the heart, and can be a lovely everyday reminder. A ring keeps it right at your fingertips and can feel very present in daily tasks. A bracelet sits a little more visibly and can be a good option if you'd rather your keepsake be something you glance at often. There's no wrong choice, it's entirely about what feels right for you.

How long does an order take?

Because every piece is made to order, turnaround varies by design and metal. Gold pieces can take up to 12 weeks from when we receive your inclusions, so it's worth bearing this in mind if you're planning around a particular date, such as an anniversary.

Can memorial jewellery get wet?

Generally, yes, for everyday wear such as washing hands, but we'd always recommend avoiding prolonged submersion, like swimming pools or hot tubs, and taking care with harsh chemicals or perfumes directly on the piece. Treat it much as you would any fine jewellery.

What if I'm not ready to use the ashes yet?

There's no rush. Many people hold onto ashes for months or years before feeling ready to have something made, and that's entirely your decision to take in your own time. When you are ready, we're here.

Can I return or exchange my piece?

Because each piece is bespoke and made specifically for you, we're not normally able to accept returns or exchanges unless the item arrives faulty or damaged. You can read our full policy here.

I still have questions

That's absolutely fine, most people do before ordering something this personal. You're welcome to get in touch any time, and we'll talk it through with you.
